Fall Fun for Long Island Families
Nothing says fall is here like the first sighting of the leaves wonderfully starting to turn auburn, red, gold, and yellow. The turning leaves, and of course the smell of home-made apple pie drifting from the oven, made from fresh picked apples. It makes one feel a bit warm and fuzzy. Couple this with the family fun of local fall festivals and you have a season for everyone to enjoy. Below is a list of the best places to enjoy the outdoors at some of Long Island’s apple orchards and fall festivals.
Apple Pickin’ Fun
There are many locations for apple picking on Long Island for the entire family to enjoy. Picking your own fresh crisp apples at a local orchard is a great way to spend a sunny fall afternoon on the Island, and keep in mind that the fruit will last a few weeks so pick as many as you want! Apples are very versatile and are a delicious part of so many great recipes. Food Network Magazine (vol. October 2014) features tons of great apple recipes this month like Apple-Cheese Toast, Chili-Lime Apple Fries, and Apple Meringue Pie. As they say, an apple a day…
Many of the apple orchards are on the east end of Long Island, but there are also a few that are more centrally located. Here are some popular orchards…
